Long Island man beaten to death; roommate among those charged

Police on Long Island say Christopher Martin was beaten to death with a sledgehammer and dumbbells, and that his roommate Corey San Marco, the roommate's ex-girlfriend Melissa Fawcett and three others are responsible. Officers had been called to the Shirley home the day before the fatal attack.

A man has been beaten to death on Long Island, and police now believe the victim's own roommate and that roommate's ex-girlfriend were among those responsible. Investigators say Corey San Marco, Melissa Fawcett and three other people attacked Christopher Martin with a sledgehammer and dumbbells. The killing has rattled the community of Shirley, where the fatal assault took place.

According to police, officers had already been called to the home the day before the deadly attack, which happened on Sunday. On that earlier visit, authorities escorted San Marco out of the house, an indication that tensions inside the shared residence had been building in the period leading up to the killing.

Asked about the relationship between the two men who lived together, investigators suggested there may have been an ongoing dispute connected to them sharing the home. They stopped short of detailing exactly what set off the violence, but pointed to friction between the housemates as part of the backdrop to the case.

Police say San Marco allegedly told them that he and the four other people involved in the attack are members of the Bloods gang. The claim has added another layer to an investigation that already involves five suspects accused of taking part in the brutal assault.

Investigators described a savage attack carried out with everyday objects turned into weapons, a sledgehammer and dumbbells, underscoring the ferocity of the assault that left Christopher Martin dead inside the home he had shared with one of the accused.

News 12 asked the district attorney whether investigators are still searching for any additional suspects beyond those already identified. Authorities responded that the investigation remains ongoing, leaving open the possibility of further arrests as the case develops.
