Police in Manhattan have launched a search for two men following a violent attack on a city bus. According to Eyewitness News, investigators say the pair brutally attacked a 73-year-old man on an MTA bus earlier this month, and officers are now working to track them down.
The attack took place on a busy stretch of the Upper West Side. It happened on June 5th on board a bus near Broadway and West 92nd Street, an area where buses run regularly and passengers of all ages travel through the neighbourhood.
Police say the confrontation began with words. The two men got into a verbal argument with the victim aboard the bus, a dispute that, according to investigators, quickly escalated into something far more dangerous for the elderly passenger.
From there, the situation turned physical. Police say the two men started punching and kicking the 73-year-old, turning an ordinary bus ride into a violent assault in front of whoever else was on board at the time.
The violence then escalated further. Investigators say one of the men stabbed the victim with a knife before the pair ran off, leaving the scene of an attack that police have described as brutal in its nature.
Now the focus is on finding those responsible. Police have released images of the two men and are appealing to the public for help in identifying them, in a case that has renewed concern about the safety of passengers on the city's buses and wider public transit system.
