The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office is investigating two illegal street takeovers in Northwest Miami-Dade and trying to determine whether they are related. A deputy suffered minor burns after someone launched a firework during an arrest, and three people were injured at a second takeover where a driver fled in a black pickup truck.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office is investigating two illegal street takeovers in Northwest Miami-Dade and is trying to determine whether the two incidents are related. A deputy was injured during one of them.

In the first takeover, along Northwest 77th Court, someone launched a firework at a deputy as they were trying to make an arrest, according to the sheriff's office.

The deputy suffered minor burns to the hand. Two people fled the scene, and deputies are working to identify those responsible.

In the second takeover, at the intersection of Northwest 25th Street and 76th Avenue, three people were injured.

The driver involved in that takeover fled in a black pickup truck that had front-end damage, deputies said.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate both takeovers as it looks into whether the two are connected.
