An investigation is underway in the Houston area after a five-year-old boy drowned and later died, a tragedy that unfolded during a summer evening at a neighborhood apartment complex pool in northwest Harris County.
According to officials, emergency crews rushed to the apartment complex pool just after 7 o'clock the previous evening. The pool sits on Wortham Boulevard, near the intersection of Highway 290 and FM 1960 in the northwest part of the county.
Paramedics performed CPR on the young boy at the scene in an effort to revive him. He was then taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died, according to authorities now looking into what happened.
Deputies said the child had been at the pool with his aunt and mother when he went underwater. How he slipped beneath the surface remains part of the ongoing investigation into the drowning.
Officials said the pool was busy at the time, noting that at least 30 other people were in the water when the boy went under during the evening gathering.
As of now, there is no word on whether any charges will result from the incident. Investigators are continuing to look into the drowning to determine exactly what led to the young boy's death.
