An NYPD inspector has been indicted on charges that he sexually assaulted a subordinate, in a case that has also raised questions about why the charges are only being brought now, more than 18 months after the woman first reported the incident. According to Eyewitness News, 46-year-old Jeremy Shublin faces the charges and has been suspended without pay while the case proceeds.
The counts against him are serious. Shublin has been indicted on charges that include attempted rape, assault and official misconduct, a combination that reflects both the alleged conduct itself and the position of authority he held within the department at the time the woman says the incident took place.
The allegations center on an incident at a Bronx station house. According to the woman's lawyers, the assault took place on New Year's Day of 2025 at the 46th precinct station house, where they say Shublin assaulted her. The woman is now suing both Shublin and the City of New York over what she says happened to her that day.
A central question in the case is the timeline of the response. The charges are being brought more than 18 months after the woman came forward, and her lawyers say that in the meantime Shublin was only placed on modified duty and stripped of his gun this past March, rather than facing more immediate consequences after the complaint was made.
The Police Department has defended the way it handled the matter. The NYPD said its internal affairs bureau investigated what it described as deeply troubling claims and referred the case to the district attorney for prosecution, framing the indictment as the result of that internal review rather than a delay in taking the allegations seriously.
For now, the case moves into the criminal courts even as the civil lawsuit proceeds in parallel. The indictment places a serving NYPD inspector at the center of a prosecution, while the woman's decision to sue the department as well as the individual keeps a spotlight on how the allegations were handled inside the force over the past year and a half.
