Two people were seriously hurt after a boat slammed into a jetty in Sag Harbor, on the East End of Long Island, in a nighttime crash that has led to an arrest.
According to police, the boat was speeding in Sag Harbor Bay on Sunday night when it hit a stone jetty. There were eight people on board, two of whom were seriously injured and then helped by first responders rushing to the scene.
Investigators identified the driver of the boat as 57-year-old Peter Mangiamelli of Southampton, who was taken into custody in connection with the crash and now faces several charges.
Police say that after striking the jetty, Mangiamelli docked the boat and then left the scene, even as first responders were there working to help the injured.
