Five people were taken into custody in Seattle after a gun was pointed at a driver, who fled the scene and was followed, setting off a police pursuit that moved across several parts of the city. The case drew particular attention because of the young ages of most of those involved.
According to the account, the driver was stopped next to another vehicle at a stoplight when two people inside that vehicle pointed a gun at him. The driver took off and ran a red light in an effort to get away, and was then followed down Danny Way as the situation escalated.
Officers responded and located a vehicle matching the description that had been given. A pursuit began in the West Precinct area, but officers lost sight of the vehicle in the North Precinct area. A short while later it reappeared in the Southwest Precinct, and the pursuit was reinitiated from there.
The chase ended with five people taken into custody. The vehicle involved was impounded as part of the case. Investigators then began sorting out the roles of those who had been detained.
Four of the five taken in were juveniles, described as three boys and a girl, aged between 14 and 17, including a 14-year-old, a 15-year-old and two 17-year-olds. They were held for investigation of assault and unlawful possession of a firearm, and were booked into the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children and Family Justice Center.
The fifth person was an 18-year-old, who was booked as an adult rather than through the juvenile system. He was taken to the King County Jail for investigation of assault, separate from the four younger people held at the juvenile facility.
