A woman has died after she was hit by a train near Carkeek Park in North Seattle. Authorities described the death as developing news, with several agencies responding to the area as they worked to understand what happened along the tracks.
According to Seattle Fire, crews were called to the area in North Seattle shortly before five o'clock in the evening. The call brought emergency responders to the scene near the park, where the situation quickly became a fatal one.
As first responders moved in, BNSF Railway immediately shut down all train traffic in the area. Halting rail movement gave crews the space to work at the scene safely and to begin assessing what had taken place along the line.
When first responders reached the location, they confirmed that the woman was dead. The confirmation set in motion the next steps of the response, shifting the focus toward identifying who she was and establishing the circumstances of her death.
The medical examiner will now work to identify the woman, as well as to determine the exact cause and manner of her death. That process is a routine but essential part of such cases, and its findings will help clarify exactly how the fatal encounter with the train occurred.
Seattle police are investigating the death. FOX 13 Seattle reported that it had reached out for more details and was still waiting to hear back, indicating that additional information about the woman and the circumstances could emerge as the inquiry continues.
