Two people were shot and killed inside a home in southeast Houston early Sunday in what police are investigating as a double homicide. Officers found the two roommates dead at the scene after responding to a report of a shooting, and investigators believe a third person opened fire on both victims before fleeing, leaving a residential neighborhood shaken by the overnight violence.
Officers were dispatched to a shooting call at the 12000 block of Glen Hollow Drive a little after 2 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived at the southeast Houston home, they met with the people who had called 911 and were told that two of their roommates had been shot and killed inside the home by unknown persons.
Police are treating the case as a double homicide. Investigators believe an unidentified third party shot both victims and then fled the scene. Officers said they found no weapons inside the home and, on that basis, ruled out the possibility that the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide as they worked to piece together what happened.
The two people who were killed lived at the home together. The victims were roommates, described by investigators as ranging in age from their mid-20s to their mid-30s. Police did not immediately release their identities as the investigation into who was responsible for the shooting got under way in the early hours of the morning.
The person who alerted police was closely connected to the home. The 911 caller was the homeowner, who was not there at the time of the shooting. He learned of the incident afterward and walked in to find the two individuals, a discovery investigators described as a startling and frightening scene to come upon.
The homeowner is now helping investigators. He was taken to the police department, where officers were speaking with him in an effort to gather any information that might help identify who was responsible. Police indicated that he told them he had no idea what may have occurred inside the home while he was away.
For now, the case remains an active investigation with no arrests. Police are still working to determine who carried out the shooting and are asking anyone with information to come forward, urging the public to contact the Houston Police Department or Crime Stoppers as they search for the person believed to have fled after the killings.
