A man has pleaded guilty to killing a Valley Stream man outside a church in Queens, according to police, bringing a resolution to a case that stemmed from a shooting earlier this year.
Police identified the man as Joseph Gilbert Stevens, who admitted to shooting and killing Richard Carter outside the church.
According to authorities, the shooting happened back in April, while a funeral was taking place inside the church at the time.
With the guilty plea entered, the case now moves toward sentencing, closing the court proceedings against Stevens in Carter's death.
Police said Stevens faces 24 years in prison when he is sentenced, which is scheduled to take place next month.
The killing outside a house of worship, during a funeral, had shaken those connected to the case, which has now reached a guilty plea ahead of the coming sentencing.
