Learning to Forecast the Sun

All of this explains why space weather has quietly become such a serious science. A growing fleet of spacecraft now watches the Sun around the clock, hunting for the tell-tale signs of a brewing eruption long before its effects can ever reach us here on Earth.

The goal is simple but vital, to buy ourselves enough warning to protect the fragile web of technology we have flung into orbit and strung across our continents. As our star settles into its stormy old age, learning to read its moods has honestly never mattered more.
